| Similar to stainless steel 304 & 304L but with molybdenum added, these austenitic steels via SS316pipes offer more corrosion resistance. Because of the inclusion of molybdenum, the corrosion resistance of the alloys is enhanced, with more substantial resistance to pitting erosion under chloride conditions standing out. Chloride corrosion may be less of a problem in type 316 than in type 304. Due to its outstanding toughness, austenitic steel can withstand cryogenic temperatures. Welding these grades is very difficult, even though they do not contain any filler metal. As a result of its resistance to chlorine degradation, this stainless steel is often used in culinary & medical applications.
