Is sleep apnea acute? |
Sleep apnea is usually thought of as a long-term illness, not an acute one. It gets worse over time and won\'t go away without care. It\'s often caused by long-term issues like being overweight, having problems with your body, or bad habits you have. But some serious illnesses, like severe lung infections or temporary airway blockages, can make it hard to breathe while you sleep for short periods of time, which may look like sleep apnea. In contrast to chronic sleep apnea, these short-term episodes usually go away after the root problem is fixed. If someone has sudden or severe breathing problems while they sleep, they should see a doctor to find out if the problem is temporary or part of a long-term issue like sleep apnea.
